Most "format guides" tell you TE premium boosts tight ends and PPR boosts receivers. True, and incomplete. The managers who win format edges know which specific players move the most when you flip scoring — and how far.
We ranked the same golden IDP dynasty pool under four scoring configs, held roster slots fixed, zeroed market weight, and sorted every player by the standard deviation of their overall board rank across formats.

Elite QBs sit 1–5 on every board in this pool (same projected points when IDP rules change). The action is lower: mid-board skill players and anyone whose best format is not your league's format.

What the table is really saying
1. IDP-heavy is the nuclear format for mid-board offense.
Every one of the top 15 is worst under IDP-heavy. Turning on 2-pt solos does not just lift LBs — it pushes skill depth down ~40 ranks as IDP starter-equivalents claim board real estate. If your league is IDP and your sheet is not, you are drafting ghosts in the middle rounds.
2. TE premium is real and ranked.
The #1 swinger is a tight end. Zeke Boyette goes 57 → 109 from TE premium to IDP-heavy (span 52). Amari Vantrease and Lamont Basking also pin their best ranks on TE premium. The half-point of TE REC is not a vibe; it is a measurable re-sort among the same players.
3. Half-PPR vs full PPR still moves receivers and backs differently.
WRs in this list almost always prefer full PPR. Several RBs prefer half-PPR (Pham, Ashby, Youngblood) — lower reception tax on the board relative to pure rush profiles when the rest of the pool is catching balls for a full point.
4. Elite top-end is boring — and that is the point.
QBs 1–5 do not appear in the variance table. Format risk lives in the middle. Consensus top-12 sheets can look fine while your rounds 5–12 are a different sport.
Poster children
- Zeke Boyette (TE): the format canary. Best at TE premium (57), wrecked when IDPs flood the board (109). If your league is TE premium and light IDP, he is a different asset than the same name on an IDP-heavy sheet.
- Omar Okafor (WR): classic PPR mid-WR — 57 in full PPR, 102 when IDP scoring is heavy. Forty-five ranks of pure format tax.
- Braden Pham (RB): slight half-PPR lean (54) vs full PPR (56), then a freefall to 99 under IDP-heavy. Not a "RB dead zone" story — a scoring-config story.

The durable takeaway is not the names — it is that rank is a function of scoring, and mid-board players are where format error is largest. Rebuild the board for the league you are in.
