Consensus boards treat a linebacker as a late-round luxury. Your league might treat him as a WR1. The only dial that decides which world you live in is how many points a tackle is worth — and that dial has a crossover you can measure.
We ran the LeagueFrenzy value engine over a fixed illustrative player pool (the golden IDP dynasty fixture: synthetic archetype IDs, not live NFL names) and swept solo-tackle scoring from 0.5 to 5.0 points, holding the rest of a full-PPR superflex IDP roster constant. Assist tackles moved with solos at half the rate. Market weight was zeroed so ranks reflect scoring and roster math only.
Three LB shapes, one WR1
We injected three research linebackers with fixed production shapes drawn from the engine's archetype table bands:

Against them sat the pool's WR1, Trey Basking (wr01), projecting 312.0 points under the golden offensive rules — a number that does not move when you only reprice tackles.
Where projected points cross
At 1.0 pt/solo, the high-tackle LB is already at 162 points — still ~150 behind the WR1. At 2.0, he is within a hair: 299.6 vs 312.0. Cross the common "big tackle" setting and the picture flips:

First points crossover for the high-tackle archetype: 2.5 pts per solo. Balanced does not clear WR1 until 3.0. Sack-heavy waits until 4.0 — sacks pay in this scoring, but not enough to offset the missing tackle volume until solos are absurdly expensive.
Organic golden LBs (market-percentile archetype rates, not fixed research shapes) actually outscore WR1 a half-point earlier. At 2.0 pts/solo, top organic LB Deon Renfro projects 337.0 vs WR1's 312.0. Volume is volume.
Why board rank lags points
Here is the part the spreadsheet usually misses. Even when the high-tackle LB is outscoring WR1 by 56 points at 2.5/solo, his overall board rank is still #59 vs WR1's #22. He does not win the board-rank comparison until 4.0 pts/solo (#37 vs #42).
Why? This golden roster starts three LBs. Raise tackle scoring and you raise the whole LB curve — including the replacement-level body at starter N. Projected points explode; VORP compresses. The engine is doing the honest thing: a position you start nine of league-wide (3 × 10 teams) cannot mint infinite surplus just because everyone scores more.
Balanced and sack-heavy never beat WR1 on board rank in the 0.5–5.0 sweep, even after they win on raw points. Shape matters twice: once in scoring, again in how replacement eats the surplus.
What to do with this
If your league is at 1 pt solo, the WR1 still wins the math. At 2+, you are already in the zone where high-volume LBs clear skill WR seasons on the scoreboard — and if you also start multiple LBs, you need VORP-aware ranks, not a raw points sort, or you will overdraft the position.
That is the product thesis in one dial: same player pool, same engine, only the tackle coefficient moves, and the board reorders.
